Technical Editing

Welcome to the technical editing section. This section functions in close association with the technical writing section yet will show acuity in a different angle and dimension of the broader field. The samples provided are two extensive editing projects of formal policies and procedures for a local non-profit (church). Working with the head pastor and operations manager, the edits were done with close attention to the client’s needs, aims, and wishes while providing my own constructive modifications to both document’s efficacy and presentability. This section is meant to show that my intuition to detect, pinpoint, and ameliorate problem areas in technical copy and content is just as effective as my ability to create it. 

These two documents comprise an official policies documents for the renting of church facilities and an official policies and procedure document for the nomination of church officers. Liability, protocol, and professional reputation is at stake in this document so careful attention was given to establishing a lucid, comprehensible, and unmistakable textual voice while delivering the material in a manner without room for misinterpretation.
I was given a previously drafted copy containing errors in grammar, formatting, verbosity, order sequence, and convoluted wording. It was my task to polish the document by whittling down the superfluous, diverting material into a lean and efficient version. The edited result is a streamlined and effective version allowing for enhanced readability and comprehension. These documents show my ability to effectively work with a client’s needs by suggesting a wide array of beneficial modifications.

WORK 01

Facility Rental Policy Document

In accordance with organizational and municipal policies/regulations, this document required substantial modification in formatting, order sequence, and organization. Adjustments to the wording and phrasing of the text were made to enhance readability and clarity while retaining the integrity of the intended message and content.

Nominating Committee Policies and Procedures Document

This document blends the functions of instruction, policy, and procedure into one cohesive document. Meticulous attention was given to ensure that the instructions read coherently and logically with the policies and procedures seamlessly manifested within the context of an instructional document.
